It’s never too late to announce good news! Our congratulations to Duane Andrews and both Joe Coffin and Nick Earle on their recent nominations for Canadian Folk Music Awards. Duane for INSTRUMENTAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR and Joe and Nick for YOUNG PERFORMER OF THE YEAR. Both VERY worthy of these accolades.

Music legend James Taylor dropped by the store Saturday during his 2-show visit to St. John’s. Big thrill to meet James! His shows were terrific, building from his more intimate songs to a conclusion of barn-burners boosted by wonderfully evocative video. JT’s voice is as smooth as ever. He was a lot of fun and had great audience rapport.
The all-star band was awesome and included Steve Gadd (drums), Lou Marini (sax), Michael Landau (guitar), Walt Fowler (flugalhorn), Jimmy Johnson (bass, musical director), Jim Cox (keys) and Luis Conte (percussion). Long-time vocal collaborators were Kate Markowitz, Arnold McCuller, and Andrea Zonn (+ fiddle).
The whole band plays on the new release ‘Before This World’, which is the first #1 album in James’ career.
A number of crew and band dropped in over the weekend including famed Latin jazz percussionist, Luis Conte.
The weather was sunny all visit (May 24th weekend!) and tour members got to explore and see icebergs and whales

The final chapter in the life of Newfoundland’s greatest songwriter, Ron Hynes.
‘Later That Same Life’ was recorded in Lindsay, Ontario, at Studio by the River, April 15th, 2015.
Featuring minimum accompaniment this 11 song collection is classic Ron. Presented as they were written, these songs/stories are as powerful as they are simple and naked, as profound as they are poignant. The first recording of new songs in over five years complete with a lyric book and a truly moving preface from Ron in the album’s graphics.
We lost Ron to illness on November 19th, 2015. He left us on the evening tide but we will always remember him and treasure his life and songs.

If Ron’s purpose here was the art of song writing, he was exceptional in his achievements. Simply put Ron Hynes is the greatest songwriter in the history of Newfoundland and Labrador.
As a storyteller and poet he combined the beauty of simplicity, power of emotion and the complexity of character and the human spirit. His body of work is unequaled and complete.
Thank you Ron for your many gifts.
Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.
We will miss you dear friend.

The store has been a very poignant and beautiful place to hang out the past three days.
As we continue to play Ron and Ron only since Friday opening, many folks have wandered through sharing their stories and memories of Ron. His performances, amazing songs and various personal anecdotes from the years. There have been more than a few tears and lots of hugs. Godspeed, Ron – thanks for touching our hearts.
